Buy Some String?

Gabe came to me today and wanted me to buy string when I went to the store the next time. He is often asking for some sort of string for something he wants to tie together or to pull something along or to hang over the balcony– so no big deal, right?

Ten minutes later or so, Gabe tells me why he wanted the string. He wants to make a tightrope in his room. He informs me very seriously the beanbags should be placed under the tightrope in case he falls off. Later, I hear him talking to Raeleigh in their room saying, “This is my greatest idea! We have to try tightroping because I’ve never done it! Right? Right?”

I skyped Josh the story, he tells me that he thinks a rope would work better about a foot off the ground with a mattress on the ground, instead of the bean bags…

Gabe then comes to me and asks, “Typeroping, tightroping is that what it’s called Mom?” After my reply he says, “Oh, I just sinked.” (meaning think). A few moments later he booms, “This is my finest hour!” I asked him where he was planning on tying the tightrope and he told me from his bed (bunk beds) to the handle on the window. He then asks, “Mom, what does my finest hour mean?”

October Has Come

As the leaves and ground turn red, gold and orange back in Oregon, Kenya turns purple. The horizon and ground is blanketed in purple blossoms from the Jacaranda trees which bloom every October.

Hear Us Roar

These lions are displayed at Prestige Plaza - a shopping center here in Nairobi. These lions along with many others displayed in Nairobi are a part of the Pride of Kenya project. They are trying to raise awarness for lion conservation. It is my understanding that the lions will be auctioned off later in November. The money will go to lion conservation in Kenya and to the Born Free Foundation.

This lion with the black, red and green sash is displayed with live plants and now has a wishing well with the Kenyan colors tiled in the bottom.

Power is Out!

This post is long over due, but posting just the same.
We arrived back to Kenya in August - Thank you again for your prayers over our health and travel during the summer.

On our arrival, we found out that Nairobi is having power outages. Our "off" days have been Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. The power goes out somewhere between 7 and 8am and is back on around 6 or 7pm. A welcome home gift? I am not so sure.

Please pray for rain. The power outages are due to a drought throughout Kenya. The dams in Kenya are low and as a way to conserve...power is out. The power outages are mostly just an inconvenience to us, but people are in need across the country for water and food.

Apparently we will soon have our power back due to the arrival of new city generators. That is of course with a significant increase to our electricity bills.

Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie

These little carts are in most grocery stores here in Nairobi. The funny thing is that just as many adults can be seen bending over and pushing around these little carts as kids!
Photo disclaimer: Blurry I know, but how do you make a four year old boy stand still when there is a thing with wheels in front of him!

A quote from Gabe today: "My dad can jiggle!"
He meant to say my dad can juggle.
